Shout out to House Shoes for always supporting the Beat Swap since day 1. Also, big thanks for personally blessing us with the Let It Go preview at the June 2012 Beat Swap!
House Shoes is getting down for his right now. The Time EP was a limited prelude to his “debut” album Let It Go that dropped June 19th. Shoes has spent the last couple of decades DJing, producing, pressing releases for Detroit-area heavyweights and being an ambassador for Detroit-area Hip-Hop in general.
The Time EP is a limited edition 500-press red vinyl EP and includes tracks by Big Tone, Danny Brown and a Jovan ‘J1′ Coleman (Drummer for Dam-Funk / Mazter Blazter) tribute by Jimetta Rose. Also included are the instrumentals and 2 exclusive instrumentals (“No More Mr. Nice Guy” and “Suspended”). All of the cuts feature those hard-hitting dirty Detroit drums, as well as superb sample chops and flips by Shoes.
Big Tone reps on the title track “Time” to set it off, a concept track from the original flip to Big Tone’s verses. “Sweet” featuring Danny Brown and a menacing beat and bassline gives this track that neck-snapping nod factor. The beat alone, with its elements like the bassline, string stabs and brass orchestra hits sound like the grittiest of Detroit’s Norman Whitfield Psychedelic Soul, along with Danny Brown’s aggressive raps, make this track a banger. The final cut “Castles (The Sky Is Ours)”, featuring Jimetta Rose, is a neo-soul tribute to the recently fallen Jovan ‘J1′ Coleman. Touching, raw and honest about the feelings and memories felt and remembered when someone close to you passes, I think most people have someone they can relate this song to.
A nice, limited pressing of the EP, make sure you cop it before it’s gone!
