Bad Bad Jimmy Ruckus, the self-titled album soundtrack to the unreleased blaxploitation cult legend movie. The film has been unseen footage for more than 35 years and said to contain hundreds of body counts, along with gruesome beheadings, and complete with several seven minute long gratuitous sex scenes. On this record we vicariously live out the life of the film through the music and dialogue of the films characters. Big Pimp Jones brings this album to life by infusing funky thick bass, with bad to the bone heavy weight funk drums. The album opens up with real saucy soul licks, then brings in percussion grooves that draw from elements of hip hop, soul, jazz, and groovy funk. The use of congas gives the songs an almost Latin jazz vibe.

Early into the album the scatting of rich wah-wah guitar patterns begin to build a distinct funk styled rhythm that fills the songs with rich textures. The tone of the drums is really fatback sounding with wicked crisp snare hits and heavy thud kick drum. The group’s various integration of intense syncopation and polyrhythm’s, create breakbeats that open up and form unique patterns of funky broken beats. Throughout the record you can feel the presence of the 70’s funk movement infused with resonant music that makes your body move. The sound of Big Pimp Jones really pushes the boundary of funk and takes on an almost psych-funk persona with creative time signatures. This album’s fuzzy funk arrangements are littered with improvisational elements that take on many shapes of rhythm.

The well thought out placement of the songs plays the sequential soundtrack of a generation, complete with lip-smacking, toe-tapping, groovy bell-bottom beats. So will the public ever see this movie? This is the question that has remained for years and for which we have no answer. What is clear is that this movies’ soundtrack has sparked the intrigue of many listeners and created a cult following of people who can only imagine what visual scenes accompany this intense dialogue and music. Until then we have the listening pleasure of an unbelievable soundtrack that’s so bad to the bone tough, its simply known as, Bad Bad Jimmy Ruckus.

Big Pimp Jones will be performing live at our next Beat Swap Meet LA. Stay posted for updates.
